Mesocosm studies are the main focus of MESOCOSM GmbH.

 We currently

• advice our clients in decision making for micro- or mesocosm studies
• plan and design micro- and mesocosm studies
• conduct micro- and mesocosm studies
• fate of test items in micro- or mesocosms
• analyse and interpret the results of micro- and mesocosm studies

Studies are conducted in accordance with the recent Guidance Documents and are specifically desigened for the characteristics of the respective test item.

During the studies several physical-chemical parameters are analysed, e.g. temperature, pH, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, water hardness, ammonium, nitrate and phosphate.

Especially designed traps and equipment is used to monitor biological parameters like macrozoobenthos, emerging insects, plankton, macrophytes and periphyton by a well trained team to ensure consistent and appropriate sampling processes.

At MESOCOSM GmbH we can identify and count phytoplankton and periphyton via microscope, but also by using delayed fluorescence technique. This allows a close observation of the development of the algae community.

The static mesocosm test system

The biodiversity of our test systems and the sound abundances of all species allow a wide range of different test designs considering different types of test items e.g. fungicids, herbicids or insecticids. Species lists of phytoplankton, zooplankton and macrozoobenthos are available on request.
