MESOCOSM GmbH is a grouping of experienced scientists working over plenty of years in aquatic ecosystem science and Ecotoxicology.
Our aim is to share development in regional care for natural water systems in relation to the European framework Directive.
Therefore we organize meetings and courses for pupils, students and professionals. We perform aquatic field studies together with regional authorities and organisations, perform GLP-mesocosms studies for registration and we have cooperation with several universities (e.g. diploma theses) to develop further methods and tools for aquatic field studies and risk assessment.
Using model freshwater ecosystems (mesocosm/microcosm) to investigate ecological impact and recovery to incorporate within risk assessments
Evaluating methodes for risk prediction for makrophyts in in laboratory and outdoor facilities.
Developing delayed fluorescence excitation spectroscopy as a predictive tool for quantitative and qualitative shifts in algae abundance and community composition
Multi- and single species tests
Fish Investigations
Taxonomic evaluation of algae, zooplankton, makroinvertebrates, and emergent insects
The GLP-test site has the capacity to perform two to three mesocosm studies a year. Each test system can contain from 12 up to 28 enclosures (e.g. each 1000 L- 3000 L). The ponds contain natural water and sediment from a local lake. The team consists of experienced professional scientists who have been involved in over 10 mesocosm studies.
MESOCOSM GmbH is working with an effective network of companies that are specialised in regulatory affairs and a wide range of GLP-tests.
